The Milton Home
My role: Renovation Strategist, Structural Engineer
The Roadblock: Construction Methodology Approach / Value Engineering. Documentation completed for the project by a different consultant team. Builder approached us to re-evaluate the approach and the design.
The (Re)Work: This project came to our office through a builder that we worked with at the time who had a client whose budget could not stretch to cover the cost of their proposed build. Specifically, the builder was confused about some of the material selection and approach taken by the original engineer for the project. They invited us to conduct a value engineering exercise to establish if we could provide a more cost-effective response to the structural system.
Money Saved: circa $50,000
The Result: We rationalised the footings system and material selection for the build, improved the buildability and decreased the project's overall cost. The project came in on budget, and their clients were able to build their new home.
